1. On May 4-5th, we enlisted the services of worm guru Cathy Nesbitt to run a workshop at the SPARK conference, a multidisciplinary conference attracting over 500 students across the board, and hosted by King's College, UWO. 2. We booked Cathy for an additional workshop at SDCI, slated for the third week of September. We also purchased worm chalets, to run vermiculture in a permanent and ongoing way.

Quelles activités modifiant l’environnement social des élèves avez-vous effectivement réalisées?

Organizers: myself, Sean Mattys (TVDSB Gifted Program Coordinator), and Cathy Nesbitt, vermiculture expert. The Spark conference vermiculture workshop benefitted about 25 people. SDCI's workshop will benefit an estimated 80 people: 30 biology students (workshop venue is a biology classroom) 20 invited attendees (from SDCI's gifted/talented program) 30+ horticulture lab students will be using our compost

Quelles activités modifiant l’environnement physique des élèves avez-vous effectivement réalisées?

The best is yet to come! We decided to run the in-house worm composting workshop in the early fall, as there had been an initial delay in our grant application (it was rejected on the first attempt, and had to be re-entered). As a result, the Cathy Nesbitt got all booked up toward the end of this semester, and we were worried about lack student participation this late in the school year. I will be updating this report at the end of September. I trust this is OK!

Quelles autres activités avez-vous finalement réalisées?

Yes. See above! Worms will dwell at SDCI, and will convert old newsprint and vegatable scraps into valuable compost. Immediately after our September 22nd workshop, I will return to this site and upload pictures!

Quelles activités de rétroaction avez-vous réalisées?

Cathy's workshop at the Spark Conference was excellent. I am convinced that our students will love her and the work she does, and we'll have a dedicated cadre of students who will maintain our ongoing worm farm.
